The CPR Empress is a 4-6-4 Hudson built in Montreal in 1930. This locomotive hauled passengers and small freight between Thunder Bay and Calgary. After logging two million miles by 1960, tired and worn out, it was sold to a museum in Scranton Pennsylvania. About four years ago, the Canadian Pacific Railway repatriated the locomotive and spent three years restoring it to running condition.

These pictures were taken on a very wet evening May 29th, 2003 when the CPR Empress stopped in Winnipeg during a run from Vancouver to Toronto. Apparently it was in "real posh shape".
