Rather than wait for the culverts to thaw, the municipality sent a backhoe to excavate the road to drain the creek. Because the grass was still in its winter dormancy and was underwater for only a few days, it was not killed. Instead, it was turning green when we arrived a week later. Except for the new trench across the road, there was no sign of any flood having ever been there.
Omands Creek was obviously swollon and was carrying water through quite swiftly. It seemed that if the road had not had a trench cut through it to drain the property, the water would have chewed its way through regardless.
